I got the new iphone and took some pictures of my sons first haircut. When I updated it with itunes I lost those pictures and got the pictures I had on my old iPhone. Is there anyway to get those new pictures back?

Like what are some of the things that the new iphone has that the old iphone dosnt? And how much better is the camera on the new iphone? because i love taking pics, so is the old iphone a good enought camera? thanks!
